Francesca’s M/M story recommendations This is not meant as reviews in the ordinary sense of the word. These stories are my personal favorites that I’ve found on the net, and enjoyed reading. If (could it be possible? ^^) you don’t know about them I wanted to recommend them. So what I will write about these stories in here is not meant as criticism. It’s almost all pure praise ^^ If, on the other hand, you think I have missed putting a lot of really good stories here… well, you’re probably right. I don’t have as much time to read as I wish I had. And also, this list is still very much under construction, I will add to it now and then when I have time and feel like it. I will only recommend complete stories or completed parts of an arc. But first, a tirade! (Poor you ^^) What is it about a story that will make me like it? Well, it depends a lot on the genre of course. If I want to read an old classic, or a fact book, or 19th century English poetry – I’m a looking for different things. When I want to read erotic M/M fiction on the net it’s no use in denying, that what I’m foremost looking for is stories that will feed my kinks. I like M/M, I like power differentials, I like non-con and abuse, and I like BDSM, slavery and angst. I’m partial to pretty longhaired men ^^ I like the dark and macabre. I also like romantic and sweet stuff mixed in with these rougher themes. So if a story have some or all of these elements, it’s possible for me to like it even if it’s a badly written story with a poor plot. But if the story is also well written, has an interesting plot, and has interesting characters, I am of course in reader's heaven. Let’s not forget that the brain is our biggest sexual organ ^^ But a story does not have to be perfectly written, have a complicated plot with subplots, background and sidestories. It doesn’t always have to have original and experimental themes, and so on. Yes, most of the times I do want a little bit more than just a clinic description of A doing B to C. Even if A does B to C exactly the way I like it ^^ But the story doesn’t have to be running for the Nobel Prize in literature. Apart from the right set of kinks, I think that what draws me into a story is the style. If the author has a way of writing that makes me lose myself in the story, has a language that appeals to me, and has the talent of making me care about her characters… Then that is something, which is worth more than all the words rightly spelled, the grammar perfected and the plot intelligently vowen. That writing style is often something really personal and very indefinable. I can’t always put my finger on it, but all I know is that I love certain net writer's work. Another thing that I think is very important to me is the sense of reality. That does not mean that it can’t be Fantasy or supernatural and so on, but if the writer manages to create a sense of reality within the context of her universe, I like it. That applies even more to the psychology, motivations and behavior of the characters, the more in depth and realistic it seems the better. Few things are more satisfying than "getting into the head" of the victim and/or the bad guy. Being able to create well-woven plots and come up with original ideas and themes, are skills that I really admire as well, and which I enjoy being fascinated by (especially since that is not one of my strongest points when writing myself ^^) But if a story fulfills all the criteria mentioned before, then I don’t care so much if the plot is plain and the themes cliched. I certainly don't mind reading about a victimized bishie for the thousandth time if it's made well ^^ And now, finally ^^ the recommendations: Below are some of the stories listed that I am currently trying to put words on why I like so much, and I will post it as I finish. (Note that I am quite brief about what the stories are about. That's because if I were to start writing about the plot, I would not be able to stop myself, and there would be spoilers all over the place ^^) There will be more stories added later on.
